Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups of walnuts finely chopped
  • 1 cup of honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Here's how to make Shendetlie:
  • Toast the chopped walnuts in a dry skillet on medium heat until they smell good. Be careful not to burn them. Let them cool.
  • Heat the honey in a saucepan on low heat. Mix in the cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Heat it gently for 5-7 minutes, stirring now and then.
  • Add the toasted walnuts, lemon zest, sugar, and a pinch of salt to the honey mix. Stir well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Take the mix off the heat and let it cool for a bit. It should get firmer and easier to handle.
  • While still warm, shape the mix into small balls or whatever shape you like using your hands or molds.
  • Put the shaped sheet on a tray or plate to cool completely. Once they're cool and solid, they're ready to eat.
  • Shendetlie is a sweet treat often enjoyed during holidays and special times in Albania. It's yummy and good for you because of the honey and walnuts. Enjoy!
